a nome dei membri della Conferenza Episcopale Irlandese, vorrei dirle quanto le siamo profondamente grati per la sua speciale visita a Dublino in occasione del IX Incontro Mondiale delle Famiglie. È una benedizione per la Chiesa irlandese e per la nostra nazione.]
L’ultima volta che ci siamo intrattenuti a parlare insieme è stato durante la nostra visita ad Limina a Roma nel gennaio dello scorso anno, quando abbiamo condiviso le speranze per L’Incontro Mondiale delle Famiglie. Oggi rendiamo grazie a Dio perché è evidente quanto gli ultimi giorni siano stati un’ispirazione e una gioia.
La sua presenza tra noi, Santo Padre, è stata foriera di tanta felicità per l’Irlanda e lei ci ha dato molteplici ragioni di speranza per il futuro della Chiesa, in quest’isola e oltre.
La vibrante partecipazione alle attività degli ultimi giorni – in particolare da parte di giovani famiglie – ha incoraggiato noi vescovi e ci ha ricordato che questo per noi è il momento di essere pastori, e che è un momento entusiasmante per essere Chiesa! Questo è per noi il tempo in cui vivere. Questo è il tempo in cui credere. Questo è tempo per la nostra missione e per insegnare quanto sia verità che il Vangelo della Famiglia è indubbiamente “Gioia per il mondo”.
Santo Padre, lei ha visto nel corso della sua breve visita, quanto sia ancora forte in Irlanda la vita della famiglia. I genitori continuano a volere il meglio per i loro figli in questo mondo odierno, intricato e pieno di così tante distrazioni e false promesse. È nostro compito convincere i giovani che in Cristo possono trovare una ragione per vivere, una ragione per sperare e un sentiero verso una felicità genuina e una piena realizzazione per loro e per le loro famiglie.
Santità, ora che lei rientra a Roma vogliamo assicurarle che ricorderemo in maniera particolare nelle nostre preghiere il suo ministero di successore di Pietro, colui che venne chiamato a confermare i suoi fratelli. Le chiediamo di portare con lei le preghiere del popolo di Dio in questa nazione, e noi suoi pastori che il Signore ha chiamato ad aver cura di esso.

[Most Holy Father,
On behalf of the members of the Irish Episcopal Conference, I would like to say how deeply grateful we are far the special visit you have made to Dublin far the IX World meeting of Families. This is a blessing for the Church in Ireland and for our country.]
The last time we talked together with you was during our ad limina visit to Rome in January last year, when we shared our hopes for the World Meeting of Families. Today we give thanks to God that the last few days have indeed proven to be such an inspiration and joy. Your presence with us, Holy Father, has brought great happiness to Ireland and you have given us many reasons to hope for the future of the Church, in this island and beyond.
The vibrant participation – especially by young families – in the activities of these past few days has encouraged us bishops and reminded us that this is our time to be shepherds, and it is an exciting time to be Church! This is our time for living. This is our time for believing. This is our time for mission and for teaching the truth that the Gospel of the Family is indeed “Joy for the World”.
Holy Father you have seen during your short visit that family life remains strong in Ireland. Parents continue to want the best for their children in this complicated world with so many distractions and false promises. Our task is to convince them that in Christ they can find a reason for living, a reason for hoping and a path to genuine happiness and fulfilment for themselves and their family.
Your Holiness, as you return to Rome we wish to assure you of a special remembrance in our prayers for your ministry as successor of St Peter, the one who was called to confirm his brethren. We ask you to carry with you the prayers of the people of God in this country, and us their pastors whom the Lord has appointed to care for them.
